A CHARMING WAY TO BRING GOOD LUCK
Fortune Cat Felted Ornaments – Fortune cats, known as Maneki-neko in Japanese, have been associated with good luck since the late 1800’s. They are often found in homes, restaurants, and places of business as a means for good luck. An old Chinese proverb is said to be the inspiration for the cat, stating that a cat washing its face would bring rain. The maneki-neko will often be depicted with a hand by it’s face to symbolize the face-washing movement and bring continuous good luck to its owner.
The colors of the maneki-neko also have symbolism:
- Red – Protects against evil and disease
- Gold – Attracts wealth and money
- White – Brings purity and happiness
- Black – Protection from danger and enemies
- Green – Brings good health and also prosperity for students taking exams
