AFRICAN TEA TOWELS

Africa is home to over 50 countries–that’s about 25% of all the countries in the world! Each country has its own distinct style and culture. Our African tea towels celebrate the continent as a whole and the region of Mali where mud cloth has strong cultural ties. The tiles honor some of Africa’s popular cultural symbols, like Nigerian masks, Gele, and Djimbe drums from West Africa, the Baobab from South Africa, and traditional mud huts from East Africa.

This set also includes a partially-stamped towel with mud cloth design. The symbols can be interpreted as victory in war and having courage in rough times.

This flour sack set includes 3 towels: 1 all-over print with African culturally-inspired tiles, 1 with a traditional mud cloth  trim, and a solid non-printed towel. Perfect for holiday celebrations, gifts, baking, and for bar use.

ABOUT BLOCK PRINTING

Our cotton flour sack towels are made by hand with block printing techniques. Each printing block is hand-carved and stamped with durable fabric paint designed to last for many washes. Block print stamps do not last forever and erode over time. Our designs are offered as a limited edition based on the life of the stamp. If you like this design, we encourage you to get it while it lasts!

Because of the nature of the product, please expect some variations in color and markings. Please also expect fading on the printing. Block printing is not the same process as screen printing, and does not produce even layers of paint on the fabric. They are designed intentionally to have variation, fading, and distinction, which is part of the appeal of block printed products.

FLOUR SACK TOWEL CARE

To extend the life of your flour sack towel, wash with cold water with mild detergents and tumble dry with heat. Iron with paint side down using the cotton setting on your iron. Although the printing does not typically bleed, wash with like colors.
